Merry Christmas!

Here are some of this year's Christmas creations! First, for my girlfriend Heather who shares a slightly macabre sense of humor.

For Heather's Mom and Dad, who took us Tannenbaum hunting.

Awaiting Heather this morning (we did our Christmas a day early) was a pennant and several alumni from Monsters University.

But my proudest creation, by far, was this delicious concoction.

A milk shake of equal parts vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, and ice; though the solution is named after it's two main ingredients: hot buttered rum and eggnog. Blend it all up and you've got yourself a tall, frosty glass of ButtNog!

1 day, but since I won't be blogging tomorrow...Merry Christmas!

Mean Caricature Night

Last night, a group of artists from work convened at Cato's in Piedmont for a "Mean Caricatures Night." The portraits started off innocent enough...

The first drawings were simple, literal...

 ...some were even elegant.

As we kept drinking, we began to come out of our shells a little, pushing proportions.

But each picture intensified with each pitcher imbibed.

Soon, the portraits were progressing from human...

...to subhuman...

...to inhuman altogether.

Every time we thought we'd pushed a likeness as far as it could go...

...someone would up the ante!

...and then remove the portrait from the kingdom mammalia entirely.

Teeth quickly became an area of interest. Some exaggerations were subtle...

 ...others, not so subtle.

Noses soon followed.

One can never make the nose too droopy or drippy, I say.

And where there are teeth and noses, you also get jowls...

Necks...

Wrinkles...

 Hair...

Even posture!

The trick, we found, was to place one page on top of another...

...pushing and pulling the expressions to new, excellently horrific levels.

Sometimes it's not enough to have a face on just one part of your body. No one was safe.

No, not even I was safe.

My favorite of the night (and a new Facebook profile picture, I think), is this beauty from Louise Smythe that I like to call, "Malice in Wonderland."

It was a wonderful evening of inspiration, perspiration, and depravation. It's amazing how much creativity one can gain from a few beers and some second-hand sharpie fumes.

Making Christmas

My girlfriend hosted an ornament making party last night. When I saw the black pipe cleaners, my thoughts went immediately to Halloweentown. Above is a very sassy Jack Skellington (maybe this is from when Jack decides to take over the Bravo network).

I followed Jack up with a spider ornament before turning to more traditional Christmas decor with my Skiing snowman.

Here are a few ornaments by the other massively creative party-goers:

"The Snowman Who Doesn't Ski, but Enjoys a Nice Drink at the Lodge" by Jackie, which my snowman was inspired by.

"The Inception" by Angela, featuring an ornament inside an ornament inside an ornament...

"Rudolph The Red-Nosed Clothespin" by Tim.

"The Terrarium" by Kim, with actual soil inside the glass bulb.

"The Containment Zone" by Alanna, containing mutating virus.

And my personal favorite, "The Christmas Tree with Ornaments Christmas Tree Ornament" by Chad.

All in all, it was a very productive party! Maybe we'll have a gingerbread house making party next...

Over Hill and Under Hill

Some goblin drawings in anticipation for the Hobbit.

Goblins don't take well to authority...

...or personal hygiene.
