The waiters at Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe (Pixar's local greasy spoon) have started a blog called Guest Checks that features nothing but receipt art. I'm a huge fan of this idea, since I like to doodle on receipts for the waiter (okay, usually for the waitress) and I always imagine the work just gets thrown away.
And another by friend and fellow Dandy, Everett Downing:
Now if only someone would create a blog for coasters and napkins...

Such a good idea! I'm glad that they enjoy them enough to start a blog! I'm going to start doodling on checks, usually I just stick to napkins and paper placemats :)
Haha! This sounds like a really fun idea whenever you have art buddies eating out together. It'd be interesting to see you guys do some caricatures of the waiters too.
Thanks for sharing this Austin! this is really awesome, I'll have to take a stab at it sometime :)
Carrie- yeah, checks are usually a bit cleaner than napkins or placemats.
Breena- Good idea! Aaron Hartline drew his interpretation of what Rudy (the owner) might look like.
Avner- Yeah, we should make this part of the internship!
Here's my sketch for Chades Challenge rejected transformers: http://aaronevansmedia.wordpress.com/2011/07/14/chades-challenge-sketch-rejected-transformers/
Hey everyone, the awesome Austin Madison aka Austin Translation is now up over at Guestchecks.wordpress.com
Thanks to Austin for linking us.. Hey Austin anytime you want to do another feel free...
What a great idea! I've never considered doodling on a restaurant bill before. I doodled a napkin tray on a napkin once at a friendly's restaurant - six months later a friend told me they'd put it up on the wall! lol.
Wonderful blog btw!
Aaron- Thanks for your transformer! He's a menace to topiary animals everywhere!
Ugly- Thanks for finding a place for all those receipt drawings which would otherwise have been lost!
Kat- Thanks, judging by the art on your blog, I'm sure the doodle was well-worthy of the wall hanging!
