Shark Week at Comic Con!

Shark Week is a big holiday at Pixar and my friends and I usually exchange cards. Since the world's greatest animal-themed holiday is just around the corner, I figured I'd print up a bunch of cards to share with Comic Con attendees.

If you love cold-blooded oceanic killing machines as much as I do, swing by Booth 1943 and pick up a set!

The Man with the Golden Pun

Since James Bond works with Q and M, I've always been curious what a completely alphabetized version of the Bond universe might look like.

Dr. O
Font Russia With Love
Live and Let "i"
On Her Majuscule's Secret Service
The "i" Who Loved Me
Runeraker
For Your "i"s Only
A "Q" to a Kill
License to Spell
Golden "i"
Die Another J

Frankly, the thought gives me irritable vowel syndrome.

Whale Shark

For the longest time, researchers were baffled by the scorch marks found on whale sharks' lips.

Hope you guys had a fantastic Shark Week! Sea you next year!

The Angel Shark

Not to be confused with the Angle Shark:

As I'm sure you know, the "Angle Shark Equation" is a²+c² = BE SCARED!

Tiger & Sand Tiger

Tiger Shark looked on in horror at his cousin Sand Tiger Shark and prayed for a Japanese fishing boat.

Bramble Shark

My friends over at the Shark Week Sketch Jam are posting a shark a day for Shark Week. Yesterday's shark was the bramble shark.

I picture this fella as that very non-threatening guy who's always in a girl's "friend zone" and all he wants is a new set of fins.

Sounds Crazy, Let's Do It!

My friend Emma is a compulsive filmmaker. I enable this expensive habit of hers in my own small way, by animating the title bumpers for her production company, "Sounds Crazy, Let's Do it! Films". Her latest endeavor, Sweetpea, is currently up for funding on Kickstarter. Most of the production cost goes to my exorbitant fee for these bumpers. Please contribute so SCLD FiIms can continue to have the highest quality animated titles. Thank you.

Can't wait to animate the bumper for Sweetpea. I'm thinking shark rodeo...

Happy Shark Week!

It's easy to forget that these animals once gave dinosaurs nightmares, too. Sharks have been around for over 400 million years, with the Great White family appearing 60-65 million years ago. That's exactly the same time as the extinction of the dinosaurs. Coincidence? I think not.

O days! Happy Shark Week!

CHADES CHALLENGE LII: TEXAS CURLING SHARKS

If Texas had a curling team, and if that curling team had a mascot...

These animals have proven perfectly capable on the ice in other sports, so I figured why not curling? He's a bit cheerier than the San Jose mascot which reflects most sharks' true temperament (all those attacks were accidents, they swear).

As always, if you have your own designs, please let me know and I'll post them below. Absolutely everyone is invited to join in on the Chades Challenge, and I will post all submissions. If you don't have time to participate in this week's Chades, you can join in July 1st for:

CHADES CHALLENGE LII: SUPER 8

Zane Yarbrough threw down this awesome challenge. I don't know about most of you, but the Super 8 creature is not what I imagined he'd be. What were you picturing before the big reveal?  Submit your design and contribute to the monster menagerie!

CHADES CHALLENGE XXXII:
HOT-HEADED COAL MINERS

This canary just found out why the other coal miners keep him around. Needless to say, he's a bit offended. Next Chades Challenge (to be posted August 13th): HAIR STYLISTS OF THE DEAD

Here's Zane Yarbrough's contribution:

On a completely unrelated note, happy Shark Week everybody!

"Huntress"

Cruising through an azure field
Visage grim with scars half-healed
Huntress of the darkened deeps
Silently she stalks and reaps

Faintly now, she feels a tickle
On her nose, the slightest prickle
Blood and sweat like caramel
Splashes ring like dinner bells

Far above, the huntress spies
A silhouette against the sky
Furious is her ascent
Tail churning as gills vent

Teeth roll forth, all set to bite
Eyes roll back, a milky white
The sea erupts 'neath swimming prey
Huntress flies through crimson spray

Jaws lock, flesh rends, the screams begin
Sea swells, blood wells, the screaming ends
Down she pulls her fresh attack
Shark and man, into the black.
